Propelling Your ArgumentPeople often wonder how to write a persuasive essay. Some think they can just sit down and come up with a nice thing to say, then write it and submit it to college. Others still think they can send a thank you note and expect someone to read it.The truth is that you can write an essay almost any way you want to. However, some are more persuasive than others. For example, if you wrote a five paragraph essay on the business of international relations, how would that article be different from a one-paragraph essay about the business of beer? Or, what about a four-paragraph essay on the American Spirit?You need to have a general idea of what the topic is before you start to write it. Otherwise, you might end up with a topic that is totally different from the one you had in mind. To help you, here are some persuasive essay topics to get you started:Proverbs - Search through internet websites for sites that offer proverbs. Then, select a few quotes from these websit es and use those to write a persuasive essay on. If you are only going to use one proverbs for your argument, pick one that will make your point as strongly as possible.Quotes - Look through various artists' records and find some quotes from their work. One of the great things about this method is that you can use your favorite artist's music to back up your points. You will also have the opportunity to use their music when you decide to write a lengthy argument.Articles - If you have been writing articles for an article publication, ask the editor if you can use their articles to back up your points. Of course, you won't use the articles exactly the same way you would have used them in the past. However, they can add to your argument without sounding like your were plagiarizing.Research - This is the best way to jumpstart your argument. Use your favorite author's material and use it in your essay. Then, show how you were able to take what was written in that article and use it to m ake your own points.When you do your research, use the ten persuasive essay topics above to begin to lay the foundation for your argument. If you are able to carry through all ten topics, you are ready to write your persuasive essay.
